Big Brother

Colin is such a big boy, and yes, for those of you who don't know I'm pregnant with a little girl, due March 3rd. We are trying to get Colin prepared for a little sister. He already acts very grown up.

Colin really likes staying with Grandma and Grandpa or "GA-GA". He's a very good hugger and loves to have "GA-GA" share his food.
Colin loves to watch Signing Time and he now signs quite a few words. He signs mom, dad, dog, bird, cat, more, food, flower, milk, water and quite a few others. Colin and Daddy have a good time together. They are so alike it's almost creepy.

This last picture is of Colin eating his own bowl of popcorn while watching a movie. He saw that I had the camera and gave me the biggest grin. He is such a cheese ball.

FOOD!!!!

Colin is an eating machine. Just the other day we had chedderwursts for dinner. I cut up one for Colin knowing that I would have to help him finish it and when I pulled out a hogi roll to cut up he got mad at me for not giving him the whole thing, so I did knowing that I would probably end up throwing half of it away as a slobbery mess. Colin ate the entire roll and all but a bite of the chedderwurst and then topped it off with a serving of fruit. And yet he is still a pretty skinny little boy, but plenty healthy.
Colin will eat his fill and then when we take him out of his highchair he will come and demand that we feed him what we are eating too. He is quite the character.

Colin found a bag of fruit bits in his diaper bag. This is him challenging me to get mad at him after I found a strawberry/banana mess all over the kitchen and him.

We found out during his birthday parties that Colin was not a big fan of cake, that was until we tried chocolate cupcakes. This is Colin reaching for more off of mommy's plate. We keep trying new things with Colin. This is Colin eating spaghetti. He loves it. I hesitate to give it to him because he makes such a mess (almost as bad as when he eats fried rice, which is another favorite), but seeing his happy face is enough for me to let him have it.
Bath time for Colin. He loves his bath too, which is good because after eating he usually needs one.

Colin loves his daddy. We've noticed a lot of similarities between the two. Besides looks and similar childhood personalities, Colin loves my mom's homemade grapejuice, peaches, and having his back stracthed. Colin just recently has decided that he needs to cuddle with Daddy before going to sleep, and Daddy has to scratch his back.

Birthday Boy

This is a little late but Colin turned 1 on May 21st! Yeah! He weighs almost 23 lbs and is just a little underweight for his age, but he is tall and still has a big head to make up for it. He is almost walking. He stands up all the time and plays with toys or dances but he just doesn't want to move without holding our hands. He got a little fire truck for his birthday that he likes to push around and I think that has helped with his ability to walk.

Colin is not much into cake. This is him being skeptical of me putting messy food in front of him and expecting him to eat.
Once he tried it he was a little happier but didn't eat much. He liked the taste but not the texture. He tried to share with everyone because that's what we do with him. The trick was to clean him up before he wanted to share his cake with the carpet and camera.
We truly are lucky to have such a good boy. Happy 1st Birthday Colin!

I LIKE TO EAT!

Colin has been a good eater for quite some time. We recently had him weighed and they told us that from 6 months to 12 months, babies are supposed to gain about 3 lbs. Colin gained 4 1/2. And that was after 2 ear infections and a form of the measles (now he's teething. Talk about "When it rains, it pours"). So we are proud of our little tubby (he's still pretty skinny). These pictures kill me, it's becoming harder and harder to feed him without getting food everywhere.
Food is great.
Hey mom is there anymore food?

This is his face when he knows we're proud of him for eating so much.

Big Boy

Colin is getting so big. He crawls super fast and is pulling himself up to everything. He thinks that he is such a big boy. He gets mad at me when I treat him like a baby.

This just breaks my heart everytime. He wasn't so happy about getting his picture taken. I found out later he had an ear infection (boy do I feel like a terrible mother). He is too good natured that I can't tell when something is wrong, he's always smiling and laughing.

Eating a Cheerio.

Getting happier.

My little angel is the sweetest thing. He gives kisses to mommy and most recently, daddy, and loves watching sports and being outside.
My sister-in-law Cori took all these wonderful pictures. She is really talented. Check out her blog at corihenderson.blogspot.com.

Special Guy

I recently had a conversation with my brother Drew about premature babies and what a blessing it is, that in this day if a baby comes prematurely we can still have them with us in this life. Colin was born 6 weeks premature. He weighed 5 lbs. 7 oz. He spent the first month of his life in a hospital, hooked up to machines and mostly being fed through tubes. While this was a difficult experience, I realize that many parents go through similar experiences without such a wonderful outcome. Colin is now almost 9 months old. He is tall for his age and has more than caught up now in his weight. He eats like a champ, I can't believe how much food this kid can put away. He has the sweetest disposition and has the biggest smile that makes everybody laugh. I know Colin is a very special boy. He is an angel sent from heaven, and I know he has important things to do in this life. What a blessing! Thank you, Drew, for your kind and thoughtful words that remind us what a special boy we have.
